Disaster Resilience

There are the large variety of natural and anthropogenic disasters (e.g., earthquake, landslide, floods, nuclear and industrial accidents) that pose risks to communities throughout Armenia. The AUA Acopian Center and its Center for Responsible Mining  and AUA GIS and Remote Sensing Lab have been involved in a number of projects seeking to assess, train, and engage communities in addressing disaster preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation, and long-term resiliency. These have included research on hazard identification, risk assessment, modeling and mapping as well as organizing with local, national, and international partners on field exercises for disaster preparedness. In partnership with the AUA Akian College of Science and Engineering, research has also been conducted on development and adoption of drone technologies to increase first responder situational awareness.
