Working across scales, from environmental design to biological materials, Aroussiak Gabrielian, practicing designer and faculty within the Schools of Architecture and Cinema at the University of Southern California (USC), will share the climate focused work that she and her team of design-research students are advancing in the Landscape Futures Lab at USC, along with other noteworthy examples from the field at large. With the current state of crisis of the biophysical world around us, Aroussiak’s talk will address how to implement design and material innovation toward more regenerative and resilient futures.

About the Speaker

Aroussiak Gabriela, Ph.D, is a trained Architect, Landscape Architect, Media Artist, and Futurist. She is Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture + Urbanism at the School of Architecture, Affiliate Faculty of Media Arts + Practice at the School of Cinematic Arts, and the Director of the Landscape Futures Lab, all at the University of Southern California. Outside of academia, Aroussiak is the Founding Design Director at foreground design agency, an award-winning multidisciplinary design practice based in Los Angeles. Prior to initiating her practice, Aroussiak worked at Snøhetta in New York City on various architectural and landscape architectural projects including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art expansion and the Guadalajara Museum of Environmental Science. Aroussiak’s work has been recognized through numerous design awards, publications, and exhibits.

In 2021 Aroussiak became a recipient of the 2021 Creative Armenia-AGBU Fellowships, a one-year program launched by Creative Armenia and AGBU, which provides cutting-edge artists a package of funding, mentorship, industry connections, and promotion.
